1066 Specials adults against Chelsea, Saxon Mount - 01/03/09

It was the home match against Chelsea for the adults. The specials all turned up early for training to get familiar and warmed up for there favorite encounter of the year. The atmosphere was great and there was great support even some of specials younger players came on to support there team and show there colour’s.

The first match specials had was against Chelsea’s premiership team. Which saw Specials suffer quite a lost of 8-1 even with a great effort from specials, the game wasn’t as easy as the score line suggested. Chelsea put some top quality plays to score each goal, but not without a fight specials even had a shot blocked on the Chelsea goal line.

The second match specials played against Chelsea’s championship team having already played the first team. This match saw a much more even performance on the pitch. The game having goals from Nicolas Costello and Jordan Kissane. Specials could’ve scored a few more with some good chances coming close. Chelsea were also denied good chances with some amazing saves from goalkeeper Dave Barrett.

Chelsea then proposed a deciding match with specials mixing up both their premiership and championship team. Specials brought on two younger players to join in the action. It was like watching a premiership game on the TV with some end to end action. The match wasn’t looking good for specials being down 2-1 till the last three minutes, the action really picking up when Michael Cornish scoring a great equalizer from a specials corner volleying the ball. Chelsea then put out a full attack to go for a winning goal and thinking they got it with 30 seconds left until Nicholas Costello scored from kick off immediately after going behind. The match ended 3-3 and both teams decided to put the decider down to penalties.

Specials mastered the penalty shootout winning a massive 3-0 with goals form Tristian Curtis, Jonathan and  Dave Lowthorpe. The specials got back the Harold Lawrence challenge cup.

I feel a special mention should be given to Tristian Curtis, the majority of the team voted Tristian man of the match. He showed such a stunning performance both in defence and running the ball up the pitch in great fashion giving the strikers great opportunities to play

1066 Specials vs Chelsea - 01/03/09

Two teams from Chelsea came down to Saxon Mount School in St Leonards today to play a couple of games against 1066 Specials. Unfortunately Cheslea A team beat us 12 - 1 but we faired better in the second game against Chelsea B team. The score from that game was a very respectable 3 - 2. Even though it was very cold the players battled well and should be very proud of the way they played as a team.
