Mrs May Hickmott - 03/06/09

May was celebrating her 80th birthday two weeks later, marking the occasion with a party for family and friends. Her daughter was flying in from Sydney, Australia to spend a few days with her mum.

May had decided that instead of receiving presents she would find a worthy local charity and asks everyone attending "The Do" to make donations to The 1066 Specials.

Last Saturday May, along with her husband John, attended our training session (not to play football) but to present a cheque for TWO HUNDRED POUNDS!!!!!

What a lovely lady and she certainly doesn't look anywhere near 80 years old.

Our thanks go to May, John, her family and friends.

Summer Fete and six-a-side tournament a huge success - 18/05/09

Last June the 1066 Specials Fund raising committee was set up with the sole aim of raising as much funds as possible for the annual tournament in May. With over 11 months left to organise the day the task didn't seem too much of a problem. It was Ben that came up with the idea that we could make it a bumper weekend with a fete on the Saturday so more money could be raised. I think the best way of describing the task was like a mammoth jigsaw (but without a picture). At times we have sailed along yet other times we have been doing that jigsaw blindfolded! I have been to football tournaments with Ben and Thomas before and, until this weekend, had absolutely no idea how many hours of planning is involved. On Sunday afternoon at 4pm we had finally completed our jigsaw and the picture was clear.

What a fantastic weekend - the weather was brilliant, you all came up trumps again with cakes and tombola prizes, Arthur the St Richards Caretaker was so helpful and to top it all we raised a staggering £2100 for your club!

A massive thank you too all the Committee members and non-Committee members who worked so hard over the entire weekend. I do need to mention my biggest stars of the weekend who manned stalls and who helped set up and clear away. In no particular order they are Helen and Ben Taylor, Lorraine and Tom Aslett and Lorraine's Auntie, Fiona, Jane and her husband and daughter, Chloe and Thomas (boot sale), Chelsea and her Mum and Gran and Daniel Mann. I apologise if I have left anyone out.

The next thing is the annual Rotary Club sponsored walk which is on Sunday 7th June; details will be at the next training session. It would be great to see loads of the 1066 Specials walking - let’s see who can raise the most sponsorship.
